2017 Review

I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon with the end of year review. I started this post thinking 2017 has been a year of trials and had forgotten about my triumphs. I often beat myself up about not achieving everything I feel I should have done. When talking to my Mum about this past year she said to me...

'Yes, but Sophie you have to remember you're only 23, and you're doing really well.'

I think there's a lot to learn from the quote above (just swap my name to yours). A lot of us get sucked into what we should be doing and social media plays a massive part in this. It's unhealthy to compare with others, but we're all guilty of doing so. I know I certainly am. Taking a step back and having a few days off, where I've been busy just simply relaxing with my family. I haven't been checking social media as often and I haven't been as stressed. It's given me time to reflect on the positives rather than the negatives. (Definitely something to work on in 2018).
2017 has given me a lot of change. And as a typical Taurean I don't cope well with this. I've seen my school friends move away from our hometown. Which has been difficult. We're growing up and moving on, which has meant the dynamics have changed slightly. I always bury my head in the sand with things like this. I end up not putting the effort in to see them because I try to avoid the fact that it's changed slightly and then feel sad that I seem to be the outsider and not involved. Something I need to work on in future years.
Work. I thought I'd start with work - simply because it's been the toughest part of the year for me. There's been lots of change and uncertainty. Which is hard to handle. It's bound to happen at some point in your life but to have it when you're so young is a weird feeling to go through. I've worked very hard and believe we're coming out of the weird limbo land stage. And I've finished the year with a small promotion - so I'm now a Junior Marketing Manager.
Travel. Wow what a year I've had with travel. I set myself a goal of seeing at least one new place a year. This year I managed to see Dublin, Copenhagen, Paris and Barcelona as brand new places for me.

I was lucky enough to be able to go back to Cannes, which consequently meant I got to meet Elisabeth Moss and the absolute legend that is Reggie Yates. I got to go back to a childhood holiday destination, Guernsey for a family break.

Home. 2017 saw myself and Sam in our little flat for a whole year - how the hell did that happen?!
Music. Music is a massive part of my life. I got to see Drake and The Weeknd at the o2. This isn't quite as much as I wanted to. But it still counts!
Theatre. I got to see the School of Rock, Thriller and Grease.
Food. Of course I've been lucky enough to eat some fantastic food this year. A highlight of mine has been Sushi Samba. Up the Heron Tower in Liverpool St. London.

Other achievements.
Pear-Shaped was created. My podcast with my dear friend Tayler. Check it out on the podcasts app if you haven't had a listen yet. It's been a form of therapy for me and has been amazing.
I did something completely out of my comfort zone and completed a 2 week bootcamp at F45.
I posted my first ever bikini post on Instagram - a small step for some but my lord that was a leap and a half for me.
Finally, I had my hair chopped for the Little Princess Trust. A charity that makes wigs for young women and children under the age of 24 who have lost their hair to cancer. I had approximately 10 inches chopped. Please if you're able to donate, whether it's large or small. It's a massive help. Thank you.
I wish you an amazing 2018. With health, love, happiness, friends, family and food.
